The road to the UNI dome starts tonight for teams across the state of Iowa. The field of contenders has been trimmed down to 16 per enrollment class across the state. 5 teams in the listening area will take the field in the 1st round tonight. We will have two games on the Alpha Media family of stations tonight under the lights. Both games will be a 6:45 PM pregame and 7 Pm kick and will be available on our website as well. Fort Dodge will be in action on your home for Dodger sports 92.1 FM and South Central Calhoun will air on the home for Titans Sports 105.9 FM. Below is a look at the 5 area teams and their 1st round playoff opponents.
92.1 FM- Fort Dodge (6-3, 2-3 in District) at Cedar Rapids Kennedy (8-1, 5-0 District Champions). The Dodgers are the 11 seed in the 4A bracket and will travel to Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids to take on Cedar Rapids Kennedy the 5 seed. Kennedy who has built their success on a tremendously productive run game. They feature 3 players with over 600 yards rushing on the season and they average over 300 rushing yards a game. The Dodgers defense has been very good all season allowing 17 points per game and has 31 total takeaways on the season. The Dodger defense is 11th among all teams in Iowa in fumble recoveries with 16 and 11th in interceptions in the state with 15. The Dodgers defense is tied for 1st in the state with 5 interception returns for TD. It is fitting that the Dodgers got here by beating Marshalltown last week in the regular season finale in a game where a 4th quarter interception return TD by LB Shane Halligan proved to be the difference and a game where the defense forced 5 turnovers. Last week Coach Matt Miller won his 75th game as head coach which makes him the all time wins leader in Dodger football history. The Dodgers will have their work cut for them but they seem to be looking forward to the challenge. The Dodgers are a team built on their senior class and those seniors made key plays all game long in the playoff clinching win vs Marshalltown. Coach Matt Miller says his seniors will be counted on heavily in this game.
105.9 -“The Beach” South Central Calhoun (9-0, 5-0 District Champions) hosts Mount Ayr (7-2). The South Central Calhoun Titans are the 6 seed in class 1A and have been dominant all season long outscoring their 9 regular season opponents 367-34. The Titans won the district title with a 34-0 win over Pocahontas Area last week. Mount Ayr is the 12 seed and is a team that loves to throw the football and they have weapons in the passing game. The defense for South Central Calhoun has been tremendous allowing under 4 points per game this season. Their offense has been predicated on the running game and coach Bryan Case says tonight they need to establish the run.

Des Moines Christian is the 9 seed but won their district title giving them home field for the 1st round.
